Scuba Diving? I was recently in Florida and I went snorkeling. The boat that I was on had about 5 people out of the 20 scuba diving. While snorkeling, I could hold my breath long enough to get down until the pressure got to me. It was beautiful. I live in New York and I am very interested in scuba diving. Can I have some information on Scuba Diving (certifications, equipment, places to go, etc.) please? :)

What is involved in becoming certified in Scuba diving (cost-certification-equipment needed)? As I read about becoming PADI certified for open water dives, I see different prices for the classroom and pool dives, plus are additional dives required (with extra fees?) neccessary for certification and why do I have to buy certain equipment of my own for certification, like snorkel, fins, boots and mask. Is this typical? Why do I have to purchase this stuff? How much does the gear cost? And I have two teenage daughters plus my husband interested in doing this for our cruise in August- should we pursue this, or just do the "beginners dive" that the cruise offers?
What is the world's record for scuba diving in a liquid other than water? I seem to remember a story about a couple of daredevils who went scuba diving inside a very large vat of beer at a major brewery, for like 12 minutes or so. The carbonation must have been brutal on the scuba equipment, but I imagine scuba diving in apple juice would be a lot easier. Anyone have any insight about this topic?
What is the best scuba equipment to buy? I was thinking of getting into scuba diving and was wondering what the best bang for your buck was in scuba equipment (i.e. good quality for relatively cheap price) with spear guns also. Thanks.
Do many people scuba dive regularly and not own their own equipment? I went on a day scuba diving trip to the great barrier reef at the start of the year and loved it! But Im putting off doing my certification because i know i wont be able to buy my own equipment untill i finish uni. My question is do many people scuba dive regularly with borrowed equipment, or is it really nessery to own your own gear??
Is it possible to go scuba diving once on Catalina Island if you have no past experience? I would like to go scuba diving on Catalina island for my birthday next month. I don't have any experience and I am staying there for four days. I would like to just learn how to scuba dive and go on a diving trip that lasts just for a few hours or so. Is there a place that teaches you, gives you a scuba diving trip, provides you equipment, and is affordable in one place? Or should I just forget it?
What equipment do you need for night diving? I have a project for a resort management class in school and I've decided that I want to bring night diving into a resort that I've made up. But, I don't scuba dive so I don't know what equipment is needed. Specific names of the equipment would be very helpful because I need to find the cost for them. It would be great if you could help me out! Thanks!
How much does it cost to get open water certified for scuba diving? I am going to go Scuba Diving for my first time, and I'm going to the Great Barrier Reef. How much does it cost to get PADI certified? How long does it take? Do I need to buy equipment for training? And while diving in the reef can I wear a wet suit that only goes down to my knees and elbows? Thanks
SCUBA equipment? I'm am looking into getting certified for SCUBA diving. What is the Equipment I need? Please specify.
What are a few cheap/good Scuba brands? I'm looking for some scuba diving equipment that is good(meaning that it works) and isn't too expensive. I need booties, fins, snorkel, & mask. What is a good brand to look at? Would oceanic be a good brand? or is there something a little cheaper? Thanks
Do you need to be certified in scuba diving in order to go diving? My husband and I are interested in scuba diving when we take a trip to Florida. Although we are both good swimmers and frequently snorkel, we have never tried scuba diving. We have looked in to taking classes and they are very pricey. To get certified in our city, it will cost us $500 and that does not include equipment. I think it is a little pricey especially since we might shell out all the money and not enjoy it as much as snorkeling. I see scuba diving excursions in Florida all the time, do you have to be certified to go on a beginner dive? Can we take a dive excursion that offers not certification but a quick beginner lesson before going out? My husbands ready to sign up for the certification classes but I'd prefer to try it out first. Any advice appreciated
scuba diving question? ok I signed up to get scuba certified, but I have trouble swimming to the bottom of a 12ft pool without my head hurting from the pressure... will I be able to do 35ft?! does the scuba equipment help alot with this?
How expensive is Scuba Diving? I was thinking of taking scuba lessons and then buying my own gear since I recently got a job at an airport and I'll be able to fly to many gorgeous locations for free. I thought diving would be my perfect hobby and see how many locations i can get to in a year. But Im not exactly sure how it works. Do I need to pay to dive somewhere even if i have my own equipment? How much is equipment to begin with? I guess im just looking for a price on equipment in total for now
How can you breathe for nine minnutes, using just one item to help you? You have to have one item only, no more, and this item cannot be a large machine (e.g. scuba diving equipment does not count as one item, it has many parts to it). Please also tell me how you would use the item. P.S. Depth is 10-20m so snorkels won't work =S Using a baloon/bucket to trap air would be hard to hold on to because of the density of air. Therefore, suggestions like these will not work =( As for the hosepipe idea, do you know how much energy would be required to suck air through that? And also, when you removed your mum from the hosepipe, water to go into it... =S oops soz ppl, forgot about that, yeah, you're underwater (20m-ish) There is a solution to this, and anyone can do it (not just olympic swimmers or something...)
What scuba equipment should I buy? I'm a beginner diver. I'm interested in purchasing a regulator with octopus and gauges and a BC. I dont know what brands would be the best. I live in Erie pa so I will be making cold water dives.
